Almost Vacation...

For my loyal blog readers, this will be my last entry for a few weeks-until after July 4th when my vacation is over (unless I get bored in Albany and start blogging...). I will head off on my two week plus vacation this weekend with my first stop Arizona, then a multicity east coast tour to see family and friends covering Boston, NYC, Long Island, Albany, NY, Saranac Lake NY, etc, it's been about 2 years since my last big trip so long overdue. I am really looking forward to the time off. Since my trip to Oregon, work has been busy but relatively calm, although as always, I am trying to get alot done before I leave so finishing some experiments. This past weekend was totally relaxing-I biked and played tennis, watched the 3rd season of Six Feet Under on DVD, did some grilling (also grilled some fish tonight), basked in the 70s weather...This week I am just trying to get stuff done, also see some friends at a new place in Santa Monica tomorrow nite, do my monthly dinner with a grad friend on Thurs nite, then pack on Friday nite and I am off! I will have much new stuff to report in July, photos and all although those of you hoping for new photos of movie premieres and stars will have to wait a few weeks.
Happy summer.

star photos, birthdays, Oregon trip...June 6th update

Okay-the first four photos are from the movie premiere of "The Breakup" -as you can see I have nice closeups of Vince Vaughn but for some weird reason, my closeups of Jennifer Aniston didn't come out or else I was too camera shy in the moment so you have that far away shots of her walking towards us. Then, two photos from a recent birthday celebration for one of my labmates at my house and select photos from Oregon visit- view of Eugene, "Mom, Sister, and Grandma"-Lisa, Taryn, and me in front of the yurt, more photos incl TJ's great vegetable garden, and gang photos incl a toast to Port Wine! The last photo is Paul Taryn, Ken, and Lisa at Cornacopia, a restaurant in Eugene where we saw a ton of drunk clowns (see below). Finally, the last two blurry photos were taken at this Malibu restaurant/bar that I went to over the weekend-one photo is my big margarita-yum. I realized that even with "night vision" on my cell phone camera, I still took blurry pics (and no it was not my buzzed state of mind!).

It truly is summer now in LA -the sun is out, it's 80C, my neighbors are watering their lawns, and I was happily puttering around my house last weekend. I had a bunch of my labmates over on Fri night to celebrate a birthday so got takeout food, had a big old ice cream cake, beer, champagne which gave me a pleasant buzz, and just laughed our heads off (see photo). I've been biking and swimming this weekend and had some beachtime, along with a trip to Duke's of Malibu-a "barefoot bar" with some friends although the waitress told me that they got rid of the sand b/c it was hard to walk around so really, we were on an enclosed patio overlooking the ocean. I had a lovely margarita-see photo.

In one and a half more weeks, I start my vacation (Arizona, Boston, NYC, Long Island, Albany, Saranac, etc) so I am very much looking forward to that. First, though is a report on my mini-vacation to visit Lisa, Ken, TJ, and Paul with photos. I had a wonderful trip! I flew into Portland then we headed down to Eugene and spent a few days at TJ and Paul's casa, although it was raining we had a marvelous time playing cranium hoopla, drinking port wine, eating pastries, playing movie trivia games, digging for weeds (Lisa's joy), watching the indy 500, taking naps, sleeping long hours, walking to the organic granola market, going to a thai restaurant, and watching a clown "pub crawl." Yes-we were all sitting there eating and tryint to ignore the weird folksy band playing and in walked some clowns, then more clowns, and about 30 clowns headed outside to the back patio and proceeded to drink and sing songs about Jesus. In Portland, Lisa and I visit Powell's books-the biggest independent bookstore in the country-spans several city blocks, loved it and of course had to buy some stuff for my trip home. Oh yeah-and Lisa and Taryn, you will appreciate this but my neighbor saw the photo of the 3 of us and thought we all looked alike-hmmm, maybe the worn scientist look?
